Random Tidbits for the Baby Book

Here are a few things overheard at the Gray house lately that need to be recorded in the baby book...

Abby said, "Mommy, I am not ready to go to heaven yet." When I asked her why, she said, "because I want to see my children grow up first."

Katie was browsing through a children's clothing store, apparently checking out the clothes hanging on the rack. Then she turned to me and said, "No Jake shirts, Mom"

When I saw that Abby had pulled all of her stuff out of her closet this afternoon, I asked why she had made such a mess and she responded, "Mom, I was thinking of Katie. She will need room in the closet when she moves into my room. And the guests can put their stuff in Katie's closet."

Growing Season

We are in the kid-growing season around here, and plants sometimes find our home to be a difficult place to survive, but this week the girls and I were proud to discover a red tomato on our plant in the backyard. Apparently, pride can even make a kid's otherwise stubborn tastebuds find pleasure in a homegrown tomato!

Daddy and His Girl

Abby & Daddy have gone to a few of the Saturday morning Home Depot workshops lately. Here's Abby in her apron before the last one. She looks so grown up to me!

Lately, she has really become interested in time. This morning she had put on her apron and then asked more than a few times what time it was.

We found her by the front door waiting for Daddy.

Toothless in the Park

Last night when I was putting Katie to bed, she heard a siren and said, "Fire truck? Fire truck?" Then, she said, "pray?" so we prayed for the person who needed help. It was an encouraging end to a pretty tough Mother's Day. Little did Katie or I know that a fire truck and ambulance were coming to help her today!

While playing at the park, Katie slipped off her little step while looking at the "duckies" and fell today. Because of the amount of blood and screaming, and out of caution, our sitter called EMS. So, both a fire truck and EMS arrived full of six nice men who officially diagnosed Katie as front-toothless! She lost both of her top two front teeth! Ugh. It makes me so sick. But I am counting my blessings that she was not otherwise injured.

Here are a few videos of Katie narrating her incident... after the initial shock wore off, she became mostly obsessed with the "mess" in her mouth and kept asking for wipees! When she discovered the blood on her shirt, she said "eeeww! clean shirt! cow poopoo!" There was cow manure used as fertilizer recently at the park, which I explained to the girls... it always amazes me that they really listen and file away somewhere everything we say! You can also hear her saying, "look at duckies", which was the last thing she remembers before the big "fall". She also told me on the way home that her teeth "go away"... "to park"

When we got home, on the first time she put her paci in her mouth, she immediately removed it and said "teeth! teeth!" Jake was slightly disappointed that she quickly adjusted and found a way to maintain her relationship with the dreaded paci.

Mimi and Popop came to the rescue, as usual! However, the rescue vehicle got a little stuck... ask Mimi! It's confidential. I could tell you, but then I would have to... you know.

One of the lost teeth was found, root and all. But, even after the EMS and fire fighters and kind strangers at the park searched, the other missing tooth never was discovered. So, after school, Abby asked to return to the park to the "scene of the crime" to continue looking for Katie's tooth. It would have been a great story if she had actually found it.

Abby will be sad that the tooth fairy will visit her LITTLE sister tonight before her first tooth even gets loose! Then again, tooth fairy should not go overboard or Abby might come up with a way to lose a tooth real fast! :-)

The Hills Are Alive With the Sound of Abby's 4th Birthday!

The hills at Landa Library were alive with the sound of Abby's 4th Birthday this weekend! We celebrated with some of Abby's favorite things...

her friends,

her family,

a new doll named "Kit"

"white dresses with blue satin sashes",

and brown paper packages tied up with string,

Despite the fact that there were no "snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes", we did have mild weather for late May, and we are thankful for that! It was a blessed day in every way! Abby drank it all in, and enjoyed every minute of it! We are thankful~

Two of My Favorite Things

Today was Abby's birthday. She is really 4! And she is really infatuated with "The Sound of Music." So that was the theme of her birthday party. I will post photos of the party soon, but I wanted to start with a post of a video from our family celebration this evening. We headed out to EZs and Abby said "Mommy, this is the first time I was ever 4!" At dinner, the girls were still wearing their party dresses, "girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes..." except Katie had changed out of her nice white sandals into her pink crocs. I wanted to insist that she put her white shoes back on, but then I remembered an incident a few weeks ago when I insisted she put her shoes back on, and she was more adamant than normal to take them off... later, I discovered that she had an almond in her sock and she had been trying to set it free! Just yesterday, she kept sitting down at the park to take off her shoes, and I kept asking her to put them back on... that evening she had a blister on her foot!

The girls sing these songs from the Sound of Music constantly. Katie calls the movie "So Bad" because of the line in "Favorite Things". The first time Abby watched the movie, she unexpectedly told me that when she gets to heaven she could tell Maria that she likes her dress. Abby recently told me she wants to "go to Sound of Music." I thought she meant that she wants to go to see the musical, so I made a mental note to check the theater schedule. But then it became clear she meant she wanted to go to the VonTrapp Family home in Salsburg. When I explained that Maria and the VonTrapps are no longer alive, she said "Oh no!"

Enjoy the video of two of my "favorite things"...

Easter Delight

Although I have many more great photos from Easter to post soon, I couldn't resist sharing this fabulous one that Mel captured. Mimi had just presented to the other two girls their Easter presents and she asked Katie if she wanted one to? Katie spontaneously jumped up in the air, hollered "I do!" and then landed on her bottom. This is so "Katie". Whenever she hears something she agrees with, she hollers "Me!" or "I do". The funniest context for this declaration was at church, when our pastor announced to visitors that we would have cookies and coffee in the foyer after the service, and Katie spontaneously hollered in the middle of the service, "Me!"

Bedtime Performance

Tonight we read a book called "What is Easter". After we finished, Abby performed her musical interpretation of the book. It should be on Broadway by next Easter...

Marble Art

After our fun outing, Abby & I raided Daddy's marble collection and made marble art on the living room floor.

Dog Days

I am so far behind on blogging that I do not know where to begin... so I decided to begin with today. The girls and I decided to spend the morning with all of the dogs in San Antonio enjoying the Botanical Gardens. This weekend dogs are welcome into the Gardens. We had so much fun that if I am brave enough to take Daisy and two little girls, we just might go again tomorrow. Here are some photos from our day...
