Theology From Three Feet High

Abby and Katie have been going to BSF with me this year. I am impressed with everything that Abby has learned. One side effect is that any big book is a Bible to her. Today she pulled my Baylor cookbook off the shelf & declared that she was reading the Bible. It's also fun to see her taking baby steps toward learning to read, as she picks up all kinds of books & magazines & pretends to read them. Here's a clip of her "reading" the "Bible" (really, the Baylor cookbook):

Things That Go Bump in the Night

No, I'm not thinking about "goulies and ghosties and long-leggedy beasties" that we all know go bump in the night. I'm talking about Abby. Just as Jake was turning in for the night last night, he heard a bump or, perhaps, a thud coming from Abby's room. As he opened the door to her room, she began to cry. Disoriented and gathering herself up off the floor beside her bed, she rubbed her head and told Daddy that "she bumped her head on the floor." She did indeed fall out of her big girl bed. It's one of those things that Mommies think might happen, but for some reason, never seem to. Well, it did. Perhaps, we will put the safety net back on tonight... then again, she lived through the fall and I'm sure she would again. Character building, right? Plus, it gives her something to tell the cashier at the grocery store and the waitress at the restaurant... she always loves some good material for her stories.

My Tea is Sleeping

Long summer drought, followed by unusually heavy rains leads to... foundation shifting! New cracks appeared in our drywall a few weekends ago, and Abby overheard me talking to foundation repair companies on the phone. So she then walks around with her fake phone talking to foundation repair companies, telling them that our house is broken & that there are cracks in the kitchen, her room & Katie's room, and then asking if they can come on Wednesday to fix it (Wednesday is the day for everything in Abby's world right now). When anyone stops in our house for a visit, she takes them on a tour of the cracks, sure to point out every single one.

When a gentleman from one of the foundation repair companies stopped by to inspect this week, she was setting up for a tea party. She told them that she was having a tea party, but that she had to wait a few minutes because her "tea was sleeping right now." (I told her the tea was steeping for a few minutes).

Meet Joe

This is Joe, our potato head friend created & named by Abby. Too bad that Daddy came home last night & declared that Joe had to go (he was beginning to smell afterall). Bye, Joe! We miss you!

A Rite of Passage

Every little girl must grow up someday... the sad thing is that Abby is growing up. Tonight I felt sad about it more than usual, as I closed the door to her room and left her sleeping in her new BIG GIRL BED! To say that she was excited is an understatement. She was indeed excited. She stood by her Daddy's side the entire time he was setting up the bed, asking questions &, more often, giving instructions. When we ran into Mimi and Aunt Melissa at Costco when we were buying the twin mattress, she yelled at the top of her lungs, "I am getting a big girl bed, Mimi!!!" Well, here is a clip from the first night. It is long, but the cutest stuff is at the beginning... Enjoy.

Double Trouble

It's amazing! Both little girls smiled at the same time! Tuck this one away for safekeeping!

What's Next?

Overcommitment, chaos and exhaustion lead to... no blogging! However, today I witnessed an accomplishment that I can't overlook in the baby book. It leads me to believe that even less blogging is in my future. You'll know what I mean when you take a look. Then again, you never know. I may find some time for blogging in the wee hours of the morning. So keep checking. I have lots of great material. Just not enough energy to fuel the creative vibes.

Will Work For Food

Will work for food... or will perform for Mama's attention. Whatever it takes! Katie seems to respond to praise. The more I cheered for her "waving" and her new "word", the more she waved and talked... at the same time! Her little hands seemed to be waving all day long. And while we were at the zoo, if she heard Abby call my name, she would take off on another round of "Mamamamama"... so cute.

[Note- does anyone know how to turn off those little youtube videos below mine? some of them are offensive, and I do not want them on my blog. I am new to youtube videos, and I don't know much. Blogger's video function was down for a few days... please post a comment if you know how to fix this problem. Thanks!]
