How to Care for 2 Babies

Abby decided this week was a good time to give Mom lessons on how to care for two babies. We have discovered a new music channel on our TV called "Toddler Tunes" and Abby loves dancing to it. One night she decided to take turns dancing with two of her babies. She would dance with one and then place her back on the floor, affirming her with "good girl baby", and then pick up the other baby to dance with her... and at the end she gave the new baby "Cindy" a "piggy ride back".

Abby Tired

Lately, Abby seems to get even more "revved up" when both Mommy and Daddy are around. She looks at us both and says several times "Hi, Mom and Dad"... like she is really appreciating family togetherness and the sound of the more grown-up terms for her parents. Well, here is an unedited (aka long) clip from a Saturday morning at home with the fam... Abby was pretty tuned up & entertaining.

Pickin up Poopoo

Yes, you read the title correctly. I am actually making a post about pickin up poopoo. I cannot remember how this little daddy-daughter bonding tradition started, but it is in full swing. And, to be honest, it is a solution to a big concern I had when we decided to get a puppy... having to contend with "land mines" in the backyard where kids want to play. Well, no less than two times a day, Abby excitedly tells Daddy that they need to pick up poopoo, and he does, because he is a great daddy. I love these videos mainly because they show Abby's passion for life. She wakes up this way... and is excited about EVERYTHING! I am so blessed.

Late to the Office Part 3: Still Eager to Come Home?

Do you remember that scene in "Marley & Me" when Jennifer Anniston reveals that she knows her husband sometimes sits in the driveway watching the chaos through the front window while hesitating just slightly to come in... if Daddy has been doing any hesitating in the evening, I think he does it a few blocks away... I guess that as of July 6th, he may hesitate just a little longer as the household chaos bumps up a notch or two! :-)

This little video clip continues the series on Daddy's departure and return to our home. The interchange between Daddy & Daughter is pretty typical... after her joyful "Daddy's home dance", she typically tells Daddy to put his "purse down" and "hold baby doll (or whatever else she may happen to have in her hand when he comes in)" and "pick up Abby" and "let's go pick up poopoo" (more on this last comment in the next blog post). Despite the chaos, I do not see signs of hesitation... do you? How could he delay one minute when he knows he has this kind of reception waiting?

Yankee Doodle Went to... Spain

Apparently, Yankee Doodle Went to... Spain before landing in the British colonies. According to Abby, Yankee Doodle "stuck a feather in his hat and called it "Mockamole" (aka "Guacamole")"! Where else would good old Yankee Doodle have learned about the wonders of "Mockamole"?

And here are a few Abby-isms of late that I have been jotting down to remember...

1. A few nights ago during our Mommy / daughter pre-sleepytime cuddle routine in the rocking chair, I told her "don't you ever leave me; Mommy would cry; Mommy loves you so much." The very next morning, she surprised me by repeating the whole conversation... "don't leave me; Mommy fry (with a very sad tone and face)". Talk about pulling my heartstrings...

2. She regularly announces "here I am" when she enters a room and "Abby found you" when she comes upon you by surprise.

3. She also regularly orders others, especially those younger than herself, to "stop it"... poor Katie!

4. At Sunday lunch after church, she announced at the table as she stuffed napkins down the front of her shirt, "Abby making boobies"... we nearly fell out of our chairs laughing in total shock that our baby girl came up with that one!

5. Tonight she wanted to stay home and continue watching videos on all of our friends' blogs instead of going to "ABC" with Mommy. So I asked her, "if we don't go to HEB, what will we eat for dinner?" She said very simply "pancakes"... point taken.

6. Yesterday, I took her shopping for her to pick out a present for her Baby Sister that she can give her at their first meeting. She picked out a soft cuddly bunny and is super excited about bringing it to her at the "hosipitable" when she "comes out" of Mommy's tummy.

7. While we were shopping for Baby Katie's present, Abby became infatuated with a new baby doll. When I asked her the baby's name, for the first time ever, she actually responded with a name other than "baby" or "baby doll"... to my surprise, she said "Cindy". Now, she does not have any friends her age named Cindy, so we can only imagine that she got the name from our good family friend, Cindy K... Mimi said they ran into Cindy at the store last week & Abby proceeded to repeat the name "Cindy" over and over as they shopped. Cindy apparently made a good impression... Anyway, since this baby had already been named, I yielded to the temptation to buy Abby yet another baby... so this very different little doll, with pink highlights in her dark hair and sparkly gold shoes, came home with us to meet the half dozen or so less fortunate dolls who seem to be stuck answering to the name "baby" for the rest of their lives.

8. Abby randomly spouts out without any prompting "I have a banjo on my knee".

9. My favorite story of all... tonight after I prayed with her at bedtime, she said "I want to pray". So we bowed our heads again, and after a long pause, she said "Dear God... Amen." I hugged her very excitedly and told her that God loves her and loves to hear her talk to him... and that her prayer made Mommy very happy. She immediately responded by saying that she wanted to tell Daddy. So when we called Daddy on the phone to tell him, she said the prayer again. So humbling to think of the seeds planted in her young heart even now. It is my most earnest prayer that she does soon begin "to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that she may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God" [Eph. 3:18-19]

Cousin Piper

Now we are all counting our many blessings that Piper is well! Of course, Mel, Billy, Mimi & Popop have had a very good reason for not sharing photos yet... but now that Piper is well, the clock is ticking, dontcha think? I did get to see her and hold her, but not for long enough, so I keep looking (in vain) for some photos to study... I am sure I am not alone in waiting excitedly for more photos of the beautiful baby and happy parents. Ok, ok, ok, so maybe I should have thought to take my own camera to Austin for the big meeting so that I could have shared photos... so I am equally to blame! :-)

Blanksie Washing

Have you ever watched a toddler trying to wait patiently on her blankie in the wash??? The range of emotions is pretty humorous. In this case, the clock was ticking past bedtime, as the whole family gathered in front of the "chines" (for "machines") to wait on clean & fresh-out-of-the-dryer blankies, because Mommy messed up by throwing all of the "back-up" blankies into the wash all at the same time...right before bedtime... where is my brain these days?

Baby Kate

Baby Gray #2 is "scheduled" to arrive on July 6th! Unless she has a mind of her own like her big sister and decides to come early, she will share a birthday with her Popop! How fun! (Clarification- her big sister definitely has a mind of her own... but definitely did not come early... we had to practically beg her to come 10 days after her due date). We have decided to name Baby Gray #2 either Katherine or Katelyn Reese Gray... we decided to leave the exact first name to be decided when we first meet her... we need a little surprise afterall.. here's a glimpse of her room all ready for her...

(Thanks to friends and family for hand-me-down furniture! Makes it easier not having to take from Abby yet!)

And a glimpse of her very excited big sister, who requests to have pretend "sleepytime" in Baby Kate's bed at least once a day... something tells me that this won't end when little sis arrives...

Here's a shot of big sister INSISTING with real tears that she needed to be buckled into Kate's carseat and carried around the house by Daddy!

Oh, what fun we are in for very soon...

Cimmin Addiction

"Cimmin", anyone?

The double layer of jammies gives away the fact that the video clip was taken in much colder days... back in early February actually. Here's our little chef who has developed an early addiction to "cimmin". She would sprinkle it on everything if we let her... from scrambled eggs to ice cream to spaghetti. But you have to listen closely to distinguish "cimmin" from "simmin"... maybe only Mommy can make the distinction... although the words may sound similar, they imply two entirely different series of events... while one requires only a trip to the spice rack and the selection of a suitable delivery mechanism, the other requires a swimmy diaper, bathing suit, floaties and a car trip to Mimi and Popop's backyard pool.

Hug Me!

"Hug me!" As if she had to ask...

Mommy has been way behind on blogging for months, ever since contract work resumed & lots of other crazy things started going on all while Mommy's energy level continues to drop off as due date inches closer... Good thing for me, Abby is at an age that provides a steady flow of good material that needs little clever commentary to be enjoyable... so here you go! Enjoy! Got lots more where this came from... I'll try to post another tomorrow.
