Every morning Abby stands behind the gate we put on her doorway at night and announces "suns is up!"... Typically, if she does not see one of us within a few minutes after the initial announcement, she says "Mommy, Daddy, where are you?"... "Come see Abby!"... escalating into a whine and ultimately a cry. On Saturday, I heard her door open and some stirring, but for at least 15 minutes, I did not hear any words coming from her room. So, finally, I tiptoed to her door with the camera, expecting to see something good... well, here is what she was up to...

Come See Jesus
Today was the first day for all three of us girls to attend BSF (Bible Study Fellowship). I am so excited to get Abby into the kids program... I have heard great things...she is such a sponge right now and what better to soak up than God's Word. Our class is one of six BSF classes around the world piloting an "under 2" program for babies, so I am extra thrilled that Katie is getting to join us too.
Well, here's a quotable from Abby for the day... as we were walking out of the church, Abby veered toward the sanctuary and I called her back to head to the car, but she was pretty intrigued by the huge stained glass window at the front of the sanctuary... so I stepped inside with her and told her that it is a picture of Jesus. She said "oh..." and then after a little silence, she turned around and hollered to her sister "Katie, come see Jesus!" I hope they both do this year...

Abbyisms
This Mommy is so very exhausted, but Abby is no less animated and cute... here are a few of our latest notable moments:
1. In Abby's 2-yr-old class this year at MDO, they do not sleep in cribs but on mats on the floor. Abby was excited about the new transition, although I am not sure the experience is living up to her expectations. When a kid does not sleep, the teachers just ask them to lay quietly on their mats, probably with the reasonable expectation that if they lay there long enough, they will fall asleep. Not Abby. So far, she has not slept. She lays on her mat for 2 hours with her eyes open. Last week, her teachers said, "she did not sleep, but at least she did not sing this time"... she had laid on her mat singing all of her favorite songs the prior week. Today when I picked her up, they said "no sleep, no singing... but she did decide to take all of her clothes off while all of the other kids were sleeping and we had to explain that it is not ok to take clothes off at school..."
2. Last night she kept saying at dinner that she wanted to go "load up" in Daddy's "silver car"... when she did not get the response she wanted, she started saying she wanted to go "load up" in Mommy's silver car... turns out, she was trying to talk us into going paci shopping.
3. Here is one I forgot from a few weeks ago... I was feeling particularly overwhelmed one day & I slipped up & & said "I'm losing my mind"... for a week Abby walked around saying "losin my mind"
4. Today she saw Cookie Monster on tv & said "Kooshie Monster" ... since her chair at the dinner table is a Kooshie chair.
5. Dorothy & Jeff are coming in the mail! Gone is the Elmo addiction, but replaced with a Wiggles addiction. We have been checking Wiggles DVDs out at the library, but most recently Abby was disappointed when the two we checked out were so banged up that they would not work. So this frugal Mommy finally broke down and purchased one on Ebay. So everyday when she asks to watch Wiggles, I tell her it is coming in the mail. So everyday when the mailman drops mail through the front door, she takes off on a dead run excitedly yelling "Dorothy's here!"... only to be disappointed so far. Cuz this Mommy was too frugal to pay for expedited shipping. Good things come to those who wait.
6. Oh, and Katie laughed for the first time today!

Toddler Prayers
Abby has been going through pacis quickly lately... breaking them with her teeth. Before Katie was born we had successfully weaned her to use pacis only at sleepy-time. After her sister was born, she really seemed like she needed the extra security and comfort of her paci during the day, so we relented and allowed it for a time. We told her that as soon as all of her "purple pacis" had broken, then there would be no more pacis for her. She was fine with the idea until the final paci broke this afternoon. At bedtime, we explained that there were no more pacis. She whimpered. As we said her bedtime prayers with her, she interjected a prayer of "new paci coming". I stopped and asked her what she said, and she repeated herself. So I genuinely prayed with her about the paci situation, after which she again interjected with "paci broken"... so we talked to God about the whole situation with the chain of broken pacis. Wow. This was one of the sweetest things I've experienced with her. It let me know that she understands the nature of prayer... trusting her Heavenly Father with her important needs and desires. So, new pacis are coming afterall, but these will be green instead of purple, since they are the kind that are designed only for sleeping... ;-)
Last week Abby asked to go see Shiloh, one of her friends who happened to be sick... so I had to explain that we couldn't because Shiloh was sick. I asked her if she wanted to pray for Shiloh to get better, so we did. Immediately after we finished praying, she said "Shiloh better now?" So sweet. How do you respond to that?

Early Words
A baby's first "words" rank up there with the best things in life. Katie has plenty to say, and the stiff competition for talk time around here does not seem to discourage her from making the effort to get a few words into the fray... at least not yet.
